Drink (Water) To Your Health

(NAPS)—Here’s health news you should find easy to swallow: Whether you’re working, traveling, playing sports or just relaxing, it’s important to stay hydrated regardless of the season.

Making up more than two-thirds of the weight of the human body, water is critical to keep the body’s cells and organs functioning properly. Keeping your body hydrated, says the American Heart Association, helps the heart pump blood more easily through the blood vessels to the muscles and helps the muscles remove waste so that they can work efficiently.

As you work, play and exercise, here are six questions to ask yourself to ensure you and your family are staying regularly hydrated:

  1. How much water should I drink each day?
Recommendations for water intake vary by person but wellness experts generally agree that drinking 6 to 8 eight-ounce glasses of water each day is a healthy goal. Individuals who exercise frequently and pregnant women should increase their intake.
  2. Sugary drinks seem to quench my thirst as much as water. Is one better than the other?
Under most circumstances, water is the best source of fluid to keep the body hydrated. Caffeinated beverages can cause you to actually lose more fluids and sugary drinks can be hard on the stomach. It’s best to stick to water when trying to stay hydrated.
  3. What else can I do to stay well hydrated?
Foods such as fruits and vegetables that contain a high percentage of water can help supplement your intake. Try tomatoes, cucumbers, celery, watermelon and strawberries.
  4. I have trouble remembering to drink water. What should I do?
Add drinking a glass of water or reusable water bottle of water to your daily routine. For example, drink a glass of water after you wake up or while watching your favorite show. Drinking water before a meal can help you feel fuller faster and perhaps prevent overeating.
  5. How can I be sure my water is pure?
To help reduce contaminants that may be in your tap water and provide filtered drinking water for your family, you can get a water filtration system. For example, 3M offers a wide range of filtration products, some of which address pesticides, nitrates, arsenic and other contaminants that may be found in water.

Tropic Water helps to get Lahaina Sugarcane Train Back on Track

Myrtle Roars Through Lahaina Again

If you didn’t notice but last month Lahaina was missing an icon, Myrtle the steam engine flagship of the Lahaina Kaanapali Pacific Railroad.  The LKP Railroad and the Sugarcane Train are back on track thanks to Tropic Water and Water Source.  When the Railroad’s industrial water purification system went down so did the steam locomotives.  Pure water is a crucial component for the Sugarcane Train steam engine.

Tropic Water and Water Source were contracted to design and install a water purification plant that would be easy to operate with minimal service while affording the railroad years of uninterrupted pure water source.  Tropic Water and Water Source was able to design, source, ship and install the complete plant in a very short amount of time to minimize the Steam Engine’s down time.  The installed system utilizes commercial membrane technology controlled by a programmable logic computer that monitors the appropriate water flow over the membranes to ensure an efficient purification process.  This mini-plant purifies the water down to a microscopic level yielding over 7000 gallons a day of ultra-pure water.  This system will meet the long term needs of the Lahaina Kaanapali Pacific Railroad and with the on-going support of Tropic Water and Water Source, Lahaina’s visitors should have years of enjoyment on one of West Maui’s treasures.

Tropic Water and Water Source team up to provide customers a complete lineup of water services.

Tropic Water specializes in home and office bottled water delivery service and bottleless / point of use water coolers while Water Source is Hawaii’s go-to company for water filtration sales and service.

One advantage of this relationship has enabled Tropic Water to offer customers both Point of Use coolers in addition to traditional bottled water delivery.  This additional service sets Tropic Water a part form other Hawaii water companies that only deliver water or only install point of use coolers.  “We feel that we can add value to our larger customers by offering a mix of bottled water delivery and POU where applicable, therefore reducing the number of vendors the customer has to work with”.  By keeping all water services under one roof, The customer has one point of contact that can be called upon at anytime to deal with any necessary issues.

In addition to the value added services this partnership offers, all of Tropic Water’s processing and bottling equipment was provided and is maintained by Water Source.  “Rather than outsourcing to a service company that we aren’t 100% familiar with, this partnership gives us the peace of mind that we are selling the highest quality water to our Maui customers because we can be more involved with the ongoing service of our Lahaina bottling plant and the sourcing of new parts and equipment” adds Brandon Arnds owner of Tropic Water.
